Introduction Footprint

This is my footprint which is a great way for teachers to start off the year. It's a nice way to learn about your students and really get to know them. To start this activity off, you will need a piece of construction paper and have them trace their foot. The children need to put their name on it somewhere so it is easy to read and see. After this, the student needs to find 3 different types of materials that represent themselves. Some examples of this could be markers, buttons, tissue paper, magazines, or glitter. Once they have the supplies, the teacher should explain that everything on the foot needs to represent that child or have their interests. Make sure that they place the items on first before gluing just to make sure it's where they officially want it.

The foot shown above is mine that I created. I used crayons, markers, magazine pieces, and shells. I have my name written big on the top so that everyone can see it and I made it look like a purse handle because I love to shop. My foot is blue because that is my favorite color. All of the magazine pieces that I used represent me in a few different ways as well as the words written in marker.

An extension activity that could be used for this lesson could be having the students measure their feet as well as other major body parts like their arms, hands, head, etc. They can compare these measurements to other students and see how they relate or compare.
